People, an ongoing project, explores how we—often subconsciously—construct and perform our identities. Our public personas are built using the symbolic tools provided by society, such as clothing, gesture, and ritual. What we perceive as a unified identity is, in fact, a complex tapestry woven from social roles, actions, prejudices, and relationships. This work invites the viewer to consider how one can discover an authentic self in light of the cultural norms that constrain us. In the view of the existentialist school of philosophy, the question is not whether we can escape from our circumstances, but rather, how we choose to relate to these strictures.
